PRESS RELEASE- IN CUSTODY ATTEMPTED MURDER

On January 30, 2017 at 2:15 PM, J’Mel Anthony Duran-Taylor surrendered himself to the Hatfield Township Police Department. He was arraigned by District Judge Edward Levine on the attempted murder and related charges and bail was set at $750,000 cash. Duran-Taylor was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for February 9, 2017 at 2:45 PM in front of Judge Levine.

The Hatfield Township Police Department would like to thank the United States Marshals Service as well as the Harrisburg Bureau of Police with their assistance in attempting to locate Duran-Taylor.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On January 19, 2017 at 7:09 PM, Hatfield Township police officers were dispatched to Abington-Lansdale Hospital to investigate a report of a gunshot victim brought in by private vehicle. Through investigation, Hatfield Township police detectives determined the 19-year-old victim was shot in a parking lot in the 2000 block of Maple Avenue in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

The shooter has been identified as 16-year-old J’Mel Anthony Duran-Taylor. Duran-Taylor was residing in the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive, Lansdale, Pennsylvania at the time of this shooting but has since fled the area and is believed to be in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. The victim knew Duran-Taylor and this was not a random act of violence. The victim is still receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Hatfield Township Police have charged Duran-Taylor with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Attempted Robbery and Possessing Instruments of Crime. Duran-Taylor is being charged as an adult as required by Pennsylvania state law.

Hatfield Township Police have an arrest warrant for Duran-Taylor and are seeking the public’s help with locating him. Duran-Taylor is described as a white male, 6’-01’, 185 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. The attached photo is a recent depiction of Duran-Taylor.

Duran-Taylor should be considered armed and dangerous.
